McLaren Production Centre (Road Car) and Tough Leadership Centre (TLC)

Avantgarde excelled in a two stage contract at the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) and the adjacent Tough Leadership Centre within the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. They expertly supplied and fitted approximately 20,000 m² of porcelain tiles for the MPC, showcasing the newly launched McLaren road cars. Additionally, around 5,000 m² of uniquely designed, water-jet cut porcelain tiles were installed in the Tough Leadership Centre, highlighting Avantgarde’s bespoke tiling capabilities. The project demanded exceptional skill in installing substrates, some on slopes, and bespoke manufactured porcelain tiles, including the 5,000 m² of radial cut tiles for the TLC. Avantgarde's commitment to quality and precision was evident as they completed the installation in just over 19 weeks, managing over 1,000 sqm of tiles per week, surpassing the standard tolerances and fulfilling the high expectations of their long-term client, McLaren. The directors of Avantgarde have maintained a strong relationship with McLaren and Mr. Ron Dennis CBE since 2001. Their profound understanding of client expectations and excellent management skills significantly contributed to the success of this complex project, in collaboration with the main contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine. Addressing technical challenges, such as ensuring suitable substrates and managing building movement and structural joints, was crucial. Avantgarde skilfully balanced aesthetic and structural requirements within specific spaces. They also focused on achieving the necessary slip resistance (SRV) of 36 PTV (Pendulum Test Value) for both dry and wet conditions, as per HSE standards, which is especially important for areas with marblelike tiles. This project highlights Avantgarde Tiling’s expertise in delivering high-end, technically challenging tiling solutions that meet both safety standards and aesthetic expectations. In 2012, Avantgarde participated in the TTA (The Tile Association) Awards for the first time and was thrilled to win two awards. We were recognized as Tiling Contractor of the Year and the McLaren Production Centre project we completed also won the award for Best Project of the Year. This was a significant recognition of our hard work and dedication.
